A high viscosity medium, Matte Gel displays the same qualities as the Gel Medium, except that it dries to a matte, satin finish, and has greater adhesive abilities. Use it as an extender, as a ground, for impasto effects, or as a binder for powered pigments to make an inexpensive "student grade" high viscosity thick matte paint.
